Managing your team

Invite people to your organisation and control what they can do.

Go to Settings → Team to see everyone in your organisation, invite new people, and change roles. The Team tab is only visible to owners and admins.

Roles

FairBooks has three roles:

Role What they can do
Owner Everything, including billing and the subscription. Owners can invite people, change any role, assign the Owner role, and remove or change admins.
Admin Manage your day-to-day records and the team. Admins can invite members, change Member and Admin roles, and remove members. Admins cannot manage billing or remove other admins.
Member View and create records such as invoices, customers, and expenses. Members cannot manage the team or billing.

Note

Only owners can manage billing, assign the Owner role, and remove or modify admins.

Inviting someone

  1. Go to Settings → Team.
  2. Click Invite.
  3. Enter their email address and choose a role: Member or Admin.
  4. Click Send Invite.

They will receive an email invitation. Until they accept, they show in the list with a Pending badge.

Warning

Invitations expire after 24 hours. If someone does not accept in time, send a new invite.

Changing a role

Go to Settings → Team, open the menu next to a person, and choose Make Admin or Make Member.

  • Admins can promote members to admin and demote admins back to member, and can only manage members.
  • Owners can change any role, including assigning the Owner role to someone else.

Removing someone

Open the menu next to a person and choose Remove. Admins can remove members; only owners can remove other admins. Removing someone does not delete any records they created.

Leaving an organisation

If you want to leave an organisation yourself (rather than being removed), you can do so from your organisation switcher. Leaving is different from being removed by an admin, but the result is the same: you lose access to that organisation.

Warning

An organisation must always have at least one owner. If you are the only owner, you cannot leave or be removed until you make another member the owner first.
