Account security¶
Keep your account secure with a password, two-factor authentication, and a verified email address.
You manage all of these under Settings → Account.
Signing in¶
By default, FairBooks signs you in with a magic link: you enter your email and click the link we send you, with no password to remember. Setting a password is optional, and lets you sign in with your email and password as well.
Set or change your password¶
Under Settings → Account:
- If you do not have a password yet, use Set Password. Enter a new password (at least 8 characters) and confirm it.
- If you already have a password, use Change Password. Enter your current password, then your new password twice.
Two-factor authentication¶
Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a second step when you sign in. When it is on, we email you a 6-digit code that you enter after your password.
Note
2FA in FairBooks uses an emailed code, not a separate authenticator app. It applies to password sign-ins, so you need to set a password before you can turn 2FA on.
To turn it on, go to Settings → Account and click Enable 2FA. From then on, each time you sign in with your password we email you a code to enter.
To turn it off, click Disable 2FA and enter your password to confirm.
Change your email address¶
- Go to Settings → Business (or Settings → Account) and choose to change your email.
- Enter your new email address, and your password if you have one set.
- If you have 2FA turned on, enter the 6-digit code we email to your current address.
- We send a confirmation link to your new address. Your email does not change until you click that link.
- After confirming, sign in again with your new email address.
Delete your account¶
Deleting your account permanently removes your account and its data. This cannot be undone.
- Go to Settings → Account and click Delete Account.
- Enter your password if you have one, or confirm with a 6-digit code we email you.
- Type DELETE to confirm.
Warning
Deleting your account permanently removes your customers, invoices, expenses, and receipts. If you are the only owner of an organisation, deal with that organisation first. Export anything you need to keep before you delete. See Exporting your data.
