Rubbish bin

Restore records you have deleted, or remove them for good.

When you delete a record in FairBooks, it is not removed straight away. Instead it moves to the rubbish bin, where it stays for 30 days so you can restore it if you change your mind. After 30 days, items in the rubbish bin are permanently removed and cannot be recovered.

Go to Settings → Rubbish Bin to see everything you have deleted.

What it holds

The rubbish bin has a tab for each type of record:

  • Customers
  • Suppliers
  • Invoices
  • Bills
  • Expenses
  • Quotes
  • Recurring invoices
  • Recurring bills

Each tab shows how many days are left before the items in it are permanently removed.

Restoring a record

Find the record and click Restore. It returns to its normal place in FairBooks.

Some records are restored together:

  • Restoring a customer also restores their invoices and quotes.
  • Restoring a supplier also restores its bills.

Removing records for good

  • Click Delete (Delete Forever) next to a record to remove that single item immediately.
  • Click Empty Rubbish Bin to permanently remove everything in the bin.

Warning

Deleting from the rubbish bin cannot be undone. The ATO requires most business records to be kept for at least five years. Make sure you have copies of anything you may still need before you remove it. See Data and record keeping and Exporting your data.
